I think wmii 3 is turning out less *dynamic* than it's predecessor. I
really miss the instant zoom behaviour too, among other thinks, so if
dropping multitags leads to a less functional and flexible wm, I'd vote
against it.
Just my 2 cents.

I would like to keep multitags too. The only reason that it isn't used
much is that wmii lacks some nonchalant and easy interface to this great
feature. Then, it's way too early to judge about such a revolutionary
feature, as it needs quite long to get used to it (the more
revolutionary, the longer it takes to break free from old paradigms, but
that's what wmii is about, isn't it?).
Another vote for keeping tags a while longer... I haven't really used
multiple tags yet, but that's mostly because I haven't had time to
play around and understand their potential. As Denis says: give us some
time to get used to the new idea Anselm ;)
That's exactly what I felt about it, but didn't find the right words... :)
In spite of the fact that I don't use the feature almost never, I *do*
like it a lot, and feel more confortable knowing it's there should I
ever need sticky windows, or a setup where I need to keep an eye on a
terminal but be able to quickly 'zoom' it to the whole screen (not the
whole column, I know about $MODKEY-m).
A note on the max layout: As agreed with a local friend who is not on
this list, the thing I liked about max in wmii-2.5 was that it
immediatly zoomed the current client to fill the *whole* screen, not a
single column as it does currently.
In fact, I personally find no use for max mode now that we have the much
better notion of tag stacks. As Alexandru notes above, multiple tags
could be used to provide a 'zoom' behaviour for the current client ---
something I've planned to set up for a while... If multiple tags are
removed, I don't see a nice method for achieving this.
As for easy interface to the tags feature:
I saw once a tip here on the list about mapping:
$MODKEY-Shift-t)
wmiir read /tags | awk '{print $10}' | wmiimenu | wmiir write
/view/sel/sel/tags;;
for setting the tag(s), and then added my own:
$MODKEY-Right)
echo -n view $(wmiir read /tags|wmiimenu)| wmiir write /ctl;;
Now setting the tags, or changing the views is a real pleasure :)
Very nice! I'll try something similar out directly.
