Those "stringers" make a very, very small amount of money, and may not
even be out of college yet.  I wouldn't be surprised if N10N used some
college students from Cornell, and made use of internships.

The Binghamton market actually has two local over-air news operations,
I think...WBNG/12 (CBS) and WIVT/32 (ABC, they have a full run of WNN
at 2:30 AM weeknights according to listings).  WIVT runs a low-power
NBC affiliate that only runs repeats of WIVT's newscasts.  (It used to
bring in WETM, the NBC affiliate in Ithaca, but they are no longer
co-owned.

Oh, the Fox affiliate has a 10 PM show, I think, which it produces itself.

The newscasts are probably as bad as you think they are.  WBNG is
owned by Granite, which is in horrid shape and isn't known for
spending money on its news operations.  WIVT is owned by Newport
Television, which used to be the Clear Channel TV group.  Newport is
in even worse shape than Granite!
