Even stranger ... the Times does have a fairly active obit desk as well for 
prominent people, much like the wire services have many obits prewritten with a 
hole in the appropriate place for time and cause of death. As far in advance as 
some of these are prepared, hard to believe it wasn't also fact-checked.

certainly not a surprise.



I see I was misinterpreted... I meant that it *was ridiculous* for this many 
errors to be in the piece.  Consider that when it was written, newspapers did 
still have copy editors!
