I was representing Arthur on the WSDL working group call when this change was discussed a couple of weeks ago and I was one those who judged this change 'manageable' for implementors, so I'm happy to do the work in the Woden code and test WSDL. Apologies to Axis2 devs who may also need to change their code (Keith?), however as Jonathan says, this change does provide a simpler, shorter namespace.
Also, it follows a new namespace convention emerging within the W3C with recent specs such as WS-Addressing and WS-Policy to use this http://www.w3.org/ns/XXXX short namespace format for all new W3C namespaces.
