pembicaraan yang menguntungkan orang yang berkuasa dan mau kuasa tuh. kalo saya sih pendatang baru di dunia (bumi nusantara), gak mao tao asli dari mana. saya mau baik ama orang yang mau baik, gak perduli asli ato pendatang. hidup orang asli dan pendatang yang baik! ini ada program yang datang dari (tao juga ini asli atau pendatang) moga ada yang mau, The Nippon Foundation Fellowships for ASIAN PUBLIC INTELLECTUALS (API Fellowship Program) FY 2008-2009 The API Fellowship Programs primary aims are: To help create a new pool of public intellectuals in the Asian region; To promote mutual learning among Asian public intellectuals; and To contribute to the growth of public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated. The API Fellowship Program is open to academics, researchers, media professionals, artists, creative writers, NGO activists, social workers, public servants and others with moral authority - who are committed to work for the betterment of society by applying their professional knowledge, wisdom, and experience. The API Fellowship Program will give these public leaders the opportunity to learn what their counterparts are doing in different cultural and ethnic contexts, generate theoretical ideas to cope with social and economic changes, and build the intellectual networks of the future. Within broad themes for the intellectual, cultural, and professional projects, successful applicants will be required to: Propose and carry out research projects and/or professional activities in a participating country/ies other than their native country or country of residence; Conduct research projects and/or professional activities in compliance with the fellowship schedule approved by the International Selection Committee; Attend the API Workshop to share their fellowships results/outputs as well as to engage and interact with other API Fellows on various issues and concerns confronting the region; Disseminate their findings and results to a wider audience; and Pursue a deeper knowledge of each other, and hence of the region. For the Fellowship Year 2008-2009, the participating countries are Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. The API Fellowship Program offers two categories: API Senior Fellowships and API Fellowships. The categorization is based essentially on the age of the applicant. General Eligibility Applicants must hold the nationality or proper residence status of one of the five participating countries and reside in the country at the time of the application; Applicants must attend the interview at the designated date and place; Applicants must propose research projects and/or professional activities which start after 1 July 2008 and should be completed by the end of September 2009; Applicants must have a basic knowledge of English or a language/s spoken in the country/ies where the proposed research project and/or professional activities are conducted; and Applicants must be based in the region/country and will continue to be so in the future. The API Senior Fellowships The API Senior Fellowships target public intellectuals with excellent records and experience in their field of expertise, and are active in professional fields such as academia, social work, journalism, business, public administration, creative arts and etc. Those working in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and foundations are also included. The API Senior Fellows are expected to be especially active in nurturing creative intellectual exchange beyond their own country, specialty, and generation. In addition to the general eligibility above, the applicants for the API Senior Fellowships must: Be 40 years of age or more as of 31August 2007 (exceptions may be made); Have the ability and experience to conduct research projects and/or professional activities in the participating countries other than his/her native country or country of residence; Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities in up to four of the participating countries, but in a country/ies other than in the applicants native country or country of residence; Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities for a continuous period of between one to 12 months; and Have the ability, influence, and means to disseminate the results of their research projects and/or professional activities. The API Fellowships The purpose of the API Fellowships is to enable promising young intellectuals to broaden their expertise and develop regional linkages at a formative time in their careers. In addition to the general eligibility above, the applicants for the API Fellowships must: Be under the age of 40 as of 31 August 2007 (exceptions may be made); Have the ability and desire to engage in research projects and/or professional activities in the participating countries other than his/her native or country of residence; Have a strong potential to contribute to their field in the future; Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities for a consecutive period of between four to 12 months; and Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities in up to two of the participating countries, but in a country/ies other than the applicant's native country or country of residence. Both the API Senior Fellowships and the API Fellowships include allowances/costs that provide for the following: Stipend (varies by country; covers only the period outside the Fellow's country of residence); Housing (varies by country; covers only the period outside the Fellow's country of residence); International transportation (one round trip); Domestic transportation allowance (lump sum); Research allowance (to cover expenses such as computers, field research, translation, research materials, and books); and Travel insurance during the fellowship period. The themes for research projects and/or professional activities are determined and reconsidered periodically by the API Executive Committee in response to social needs. The themes for the Fellowship Year 2008-2009 are: 1. Changing Identities and their Social, Historical, and Cultural Contexts e.g. the use of historical memory in building regional and national identities; the construction of cultural majorities and minorities; the role of the media and the arts; the dynamics of cultural encounter; the performance of gender, religious, and class roles. 2. Reflection on the Human Condition and the Search for Social Justice e.g. the distribution of political rights; economic and physical security; the management of social change; the marginalization of peripheral populations; human interaction with the environment. 3. Current Structure of Globalization and Possible Alternatives e.g. the impact of economic integration on states and societies; human and capital migration; the changing role of borders; the meaning of self-reliance; the global marketing of culture; civil society in the era of globalization. API Workshops Various programs will be sponsored to provide the API Senior Fellows and the API Fellows the opportunity to interact during and after their fellowship period. Among these, participation in an API Workshop in the last quarter of year 2009 is 2008-2009 Fellows obligation. The Workshops primary aim is to facilitate the exchange of ideas to establish a cohesive network of public intellectuals spanning multiple generations, countries, and specialties as well as exchange of information and results of research projects and/or professional activities among the Fellows. Applications for the Fellowship Year 2008-2009 will be closed on 31August 2007. The selection of the API Fellowships will be made first at the national level by the Country Selection Committee composed of notable public intellectuals of the country, and then at the international level by the International Selection Committee consisting of representatives of the Partner Institutions of the participating countries as well as eminent public intellectuals of the region. As a result of these two selection processes, four to six Fellows will be chosen from each country. The results of the final selection will be announced by the end of February 2008. Why are you applying for an API Fellowship? What will be the possible effect of the API Fellowship on your professional and public service record and on your further development as a public intellectual in your country or in the region? How do the general objectives of the API Fellowship Program relate to your goals? Where and how did you get to know about the API Fellowship Program? (2) A completed Application Form The Application Form can be downloaded from the API Website http://www.api-fellowships.org/ completed and sent to the Partner Institution of the applicant's native country or country of residence. The Application Form, which can be found on the API Website, can also be completed and sent electronically to the Partner Institution of the applicant's residence country. The applicant is encouraged to do this. The Application Form must be completed in English. The Application Form must be typed. A hand-written one will NOT be accepted. (3) A Project Statement for the Research Project and/or Professional Activities The Project Statement can be in English or in the applicants national language. If the Project Statement is not written in English, the applicant is required to attach a summary written in English as well as in the language/s spoken in the country/ies that the applicant proposes to stay. The Project Statement should not exceed five pages, single-spaced, and must include the following: How is the proposed research project and/or professional activity related or relevant to one of the API Fellowship Programs three broad themes? What are the background, significance, objective/s, and rationale for the proposed research project and/or professional activity? State if the proposed project is related to any of your previous involvements; other sources of funds and grant coverage and benefits. Elaborate on your existing knowledge and/or information about your topic vis-à-vis the country/ies where you propose to conduct your research project or professional activity. This will help the Selection Committee to assess the viability and justification of the country/ies proposed. What are the methodology, work plan, and time schedule of the proposed research project and/or professional activity? Do you have the institutional contact/s, if any, that you may have in the proposed host countries? If so, who are they? What are the main anticipated outputs and when will it be completed? How can these contribute to your future involvements? What is your plan for disseminating or implementing the results of the research project and/or professional activity? Please note that the Fellowship Grants will NOT be provided for any research project and/or professional activity undertaken in the native country or country of residence. (4) Two Written Letters of Reference These letters should, in addition to any other information, refer to the referee's relationship to the applicant, the experience of the applicant in the proposed project area and the ability of the applicant to complete the project. These letters can be written either in English or in the national language of the applicant. The letter should be addressed to API Fellowship Program and written within three months before the deadline of the submission. (5) Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) The C.V. should refer to relevant and recent activities in the educational and employment history of the applicant. Publications, awards, grants received and public and civil society involvement should be included, if any. Artists and media workers may be asked to submit sample work. The C.V. should not exceed three pages in length. It must be both in English and in the national language of the applicant. Please note that any misrepresentations, willful or otherwise, made in any of the documents above may be cause for revocation of the Fellowship Grant at any time. C.
