I too believe ASF will be definitely get accepted this year.

 Presently WSO2 is using Apache Shindig for thire project  "WSO2 gadget
sever". This is becaues they wanted the gadget to work when its url is
given, no matter where the Gadget is!

when i spoke to my folks they stated their keeping this option open for
future since Wookie is also using W3C Specifications.  but unfortuatly for
this years gsoc i dont think form the WSO2 side there will be much intrest
in this of now.

In the projects you hav suggested. "Widget management" quite intersected me.
i'm also looking forward to your other project ideas.
