The gimps on the left have been very quick to point out that Bush kept most of the spending for the Iraq war "off budget" (note, social security is treated similiarily) and that with Obama's budgeting processes we enter some sort of new day of righteous fiscal accounting...... Not so.
First and foremost, Obama's spent more in his first 30 days or so than any president. Ever. Obama's blasted the deficit far beyond the levels ever imagined by any republican. Ever. "But Kammi, Obama's promised to slash the deficit!!! I heard him say it!!!!" Aye, and there's yer smoke and mirrors. He claims he found over USD $2tril in savings over the next 10 years. 2tril!!! But what's he's done is simply bloat the base metric by which these "savings" will measured. Check his math. He's baked in the idea that the Bush tax cuts will continue to impact the budget, even after they expire in a couple years (remember 10 years, yet the tax cuts expire in only a couple). The same metric that assumes Iraq will continue to be funded at the levels during Bush, even though Obama has promised to bring the boys home in a year or so. Obama's gimmick to pull the Iraq spending from "off budget" (google it, the whole idea that this hides anything is a bunch of hooey) has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility and only is intended to be used in the future for thumping his hollow chest. Kind of like when he says he'll "finish" the Iraq war. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "World-thread" group.
