Something like this in explosion.cpp should do the trick :

      ver -> SetEnergyDelta (-hit_point_loss);
      if (ver -> IsActiveCharacter()) {
        ActiveTeam().AccessWeapon().Deselect();
        ActiveTeam().AccessWeapon().Select();
      }

I'm on it.
