If too many issues arise from deleting, what about simply renaming?
Full category manipulation is not what this area is really intended
for, I would assume.

Why does this have to be the case?
Why not just automatically re-assign all deleted items to a default
category, or make them uncategorized, or let the user pick the
category
to re-assign them to? None of these options would appear to be
programatically complicated, unless I've missed something.

Yes, I thought about it. However, deleting a category involves
removing ALL of the related posts from that category. There could
be a
js confirm dialog to warn the user of that danger. Ideally the
dialog
should inform the user of the number of posts in that category so the
decision is never made uninformed.

I apologize if this has been mentioned before.
Has anyone thought about adding a small "delete" button under
categories
in the Write interface? A couple of times, in my hast to add a
category, I've misspelled a word and would have liked to have
deleted it
right THEN, rather than through an admin interface.
