It's a good point David but all I have to do is change the settings in the Upload options to get me a brand new empty folder and all the previous posts and image links are still just fine. I can do that every XX or so images with no problems. All I am saying is that I suspect there are a lot of users who will prefer the original method, especially after they have designed their working practice around it. And it has just completely disappeared. This is bad practice and bad user relations.

It's good to have new features and functionality but with most software this does not mean losing something completely that has worked well and replacing it with something that to get round I have to hack code for. So now I need to write a plugin AND hack the admin code to get this back and to ensure that ecto still puts things where I want them when I am on the road.

[ANDY] What I'd like is the upload feature as per 1.5.x which worked
just fine for me. One folder, choice of thumbnail and gave me the

The point is that a flat folder structure won't work for most people.
A lot of people will hopefully use this new feature to upload pictures
to go with every post, or maybe every other post, or whatever. Over
the course of a few years (tangent: what's the average lifetime of a
WP blog?), the amount of files here would get really huge, and some
filesystems choke when the number of files gets too big.

That's why a flat folder strucutre shouldn't be in the core. However,
you're welcome to hack/build a plugint to alter this.
