Okay, updated my local WP install with the latest 2.6 branch as Matt
suggested as well as one of my online sites and ran them through the
paces for a couple hours. So far, so good...it looks like the problem is
gone with this build (2.6-r8511 aka 2.6.1-alpha), the Admin is moving
right along now. Error logs for root, themes and plugins are empty (same
as before actually).
Since this a maintenance release and more bugs are fixed than not
according to Trac 2.6.1 Roadmap, I don't mind mind running my online
site with it. Besides, I'll be one of the first to update both sites to
a beta version any day. I'll wait till the morning and check again but
it looks good so far. A pronounced difference for the better.

Trying checking out the latest 2.6 branch (that'll become 2.6.1), to
see if that fixes your problem.

Extra note: I swear I didn't see this when I was running the beta builds on
both sites and the test install (server side). Unfortunately, I didn't
bother with the RC since it was only a few days till the final release.

Have you tried a fresh install on the same server to try to reproduce
the slowness?

Hi all,
Has anyone had a problem with the 2.6 Admin running slower at times than
previous versions with or without gears enabled. Perhaps slower isn't the
term I'm looking for here but more like hesitating for several seconds
before switching to another page like from "Plugins" to "Comments" for
example. Once you're in a page like "Comments", things seem to move right
along until your attempt to switch to another section of the Admin.
Sometimes it's quick enough and sometimes it "hesitates" for several
seconds.
No error callouts, error logs are clean and I know it's not the server,
upgrade procedure (strictly "by the book" manual upgrading) or plugin
related (went the standard rounds with that) and doesn't seem to affect
the
actual site itself, just the Admin. I can't seem to find any reason for
it
and it only appeared to begin with the 2.6 release, not beta's. Just
wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing.
I have been noticing it myself. I am running a FIOS duplexed 30mbps
connection and it seems to take about 15 - 20 seconds. to load the page.
My
sites are located at DreamHost, which accounts for some of the speed
lapse,
but not that much. The front page loads pretty good -- and I am using
WP-Super Cache. It is just the admin pages that seem to drag a bit.
