Many years ago, WordPress stored its images in /wp-images/ The core upgrade is set to delete *any* old file which has ever been included in WP, so thats why its deleteing it.

I'm not too sure theres a need to remove *every* ancient folder.. But there might be some people out there who still have it after upgrading so many versions

I like to keep my uploads in /wp-images instead of /wp-content/uploads. I
know a few other people who do this as well.

Anyone know if there is any particular reason why
wp-admin/includes/update-core.php has the wp-images folder set as a folder
to delete automatically after upgrading?
