Hello, Mr. Sondheim. I'm sending this poem as a "reply" to your poem even though it has nothing to do with it because I've just tried to enter this poem directly to the wrything address I have twice and it's come back undelivered both times.
The Whisper of the Whistling Water*
Sing, water, sing.
You're always in tune
Even when fish-occupied
As well as somewhat polluted
As virtually all water is now.
Take your silk
Where you can find it,
Even from the tail
Of an otherwise
Mythological bull.
Taking in linen
Takes on a different aspect
When hundreds years old faces
May be difficult to find.
It depends on which
You look for and when.
Angels have no balls
But cupids do.
Where do they lose
Their machinery
And how,
When they measure?
Yellow, the cuckold's color,
Is no longer allowed here,
If you know how to disappear
In sunlight, let me know.
I might have a use
For that magic someday.
Reconstitute the past
But don't stay there long.
Excess energy propels you
Into the future
If you're lucky.
When mother is a mattress
Does the child sleeping on her
Have more interesting dreams?
Make your metronome smile.
Educate it to it's highest potential.
A benevolent machine,
It stops all by itself
And can help you sleep
If you watch it closely.
