Happy Birthday Alan!!
now this abomination..
"I do not think. Do I therefore not exist?"
written by a famous automaton draftsman Jaquet-Droz
built and toured in the late 18th century.
okay, my last post was upon a quikscan, and my own psychological
defect catalogue.. it's a good article.
i liked how he said flarf was collage.
and he said it was cliquish.. both seem accurate.
so anyway
this one is even moire worrisom and defected? I give up.
;;;
one thing that puzzles me, is questioning so severely
the corporate nature of google's algorhythms..
look at the ideological implications of any given word
in the english lexicon..
of english itself.. i've been looking at the Pyu language today..
what a lovely set.. why don't we all switch to Pyu! Its much prettier
at least than the latin ltters. anyway
let's look at "Admiral"
check out the wiktionary entry (i dont have my oed, my "evil" oed)
OE. amiral, admiral, OF. amiral, ultimately fr. Ar. amîr-al-bahr commander
of the sea; Ar. amîr is commander, al is the Ar. article, and amîr-al,
heard in different titles, was taken as one word. Early forms of the word
show confusion with L. admirabilis admirable, fr. admirari to admire. It
is said to have been introduced into Europe by the Genoese or Venetians,
in the 12th or 13th century. Cf. {Ameer}, {Emir}
Are we not to use the word admiral without knowing its
jaded ideologically determined history? Does anyone
recognize the hard contours of its ironic use today?
What are the ethical foundations of all language..
Was language itself originally a weapon?
or a tactical device for exploitative hunting practices?
What alot of this kind of thinking comes down to,
and which is shown rather wonderfully in Daniel Tiffany's
work about the history of atomist theory and the way
epicurian atomism was stripped of its hedonistic subtexts,
its sensualism, by proceeding generations of users.
Culturally then, what is our relationship to pleasure?
How does the historical perception of pleasure frame
our entire discourse. Do we even understand the psychic
mechanism of pleasure? Are we actually repelled by repulsion
or are we paradoxically attracted to it? The subtle dimension
of political inflection is its refraction through "the political body" of
perception itself..
we should be cognizant here of the physics of photons themselves,
of the existence of polaritons, which is a mechanical meta-particle which
travels through substance and which can sometimes regenerate a photon..
ideas when they become externalized as words or images
enact the same polaritonic mechanical force in the mind, and thus
in the world engendering all kinds of structures
think of ideas as solitons, identities whose structures
have some form of coherence but whose usage is subjective..
ie prone to mutation in the field
how can subjectivity critique subjectivity, when the knowledge of the
objective domain is largely conjecture based in subjective
instrumentalities..
what we have is a kind of constructionist chaosmic agon, as reality itself
is a kind of fecund automatic replication..
its no accident to me, that the butterfly was the greek symbol
for psyche, and that we have "the butterfly effect" as a feature
of chaos theory.
what would the world look like if Constantine had not converted to
Xtianity? What would the world look like if Tesla, or Napolean
had never existed..
If the world is a construction, then politics are irrelevant
except as a symptom of mental disorder. Design, ie Aesthetics
should be the overarching concern. If Love and justice, and sustainability
are to be our paradigm, then those paradigms should be designed into the
structure of societies physically without question, and their
implementation should be a scientific process based in applied
materiality. If our own physical expression impugns those paradigms THEN
what happens? Do we.. kill a whole bunch of people
so the system works right again? You see, no crystallization like this is
really possible..
hence agon, or as machiavelli put it, an infinity of troubles,
you get religion to soothe, and complicate, some activism, on every side,
some critique maybe, whatever that does, and
a catalogue of "random" vectors like the weather, but the problematics of
consciousness within the material domain
are trenchant. Reality is more complicated than human intelligence.
why even bother with the puny cyclops cat of flarf..
Its a much larger issue involving the psychologism of sensation
and the phsyics of immaterialty as represented by ideation-transferance
with image-langue
a haunting by pharmakomechanical ghost logics
the exquisite and terrible automatism of it all..
well that was my pathetic attempt//
> essay in jacket magazine, targets flarf and other "google-sculpting"
poetry techniques. might be of interest to some here. i'm still
mulling over some of the arguments & would be curious to hear what
anyone on this list thinks about the piece.
