Hi Dave,
It seems that the firewall is the likely cause of your problem. Why don't you
try accessng your ftp server using a PC is not behind a firewall? Just do a
dial-up and see whether the connection gets through. I've faced problems
connecting with SSL before and it's due to firewall configurations. (active ftp
with firewall on server-side, client is dial-up). For passive ftp, make sure
your server is not behind a firewall. Otherwise, passive ftp won't work.
To check where the connection "breaks down", once you start connecting, run
netstat by typing "netstat -an" in your DOS command prompt. At the same time,
get someone at the server-side to do the same. Then look for both IP address and
trace the flow. The part where you see a [SYNC_SENT] will be the moment where
the connection fails. [SYNC_SENT] means a request was sent out but somehow, the
response/ack didn't get back. This means the request wasn't able to get to the
destination due to some reasons. (which later i found out was a firewall
problem)
Hope this'll help

Subject: [WS_FTP Forum] WS_FTP error
Fax to:
I'm a new subscriber to this list and am trying to get WS_FTP Server v
3.13 configured correctly. I have 2 remote users helping me test who
will be regular users of the FTP server once it's up and running. They
are both using WS_FTP Pro v 7.6. Both are getting the following error
message when trying to connect:
"connection timed out; the connection timed out while waiting for a
response from the server. PORT 10,31,14,160,13,187 504 Invalid PORT
address Port failed 504 Invalid PORT address".
The users are trying to connect in passive mode. From other text
appearing in the message window of the client, it appears that the
password is accepted but the connection times out before being
completed. I know that at least one of the clients is behind a
firewall. My server is also behind a firewall, but the firewall has
been configured to allow FTP traffic through to the IP address of the
server PC.
Any help offered would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
