Randy,

Because we have "known" users only it really seldom happens that
someone creates subdirectories in write-only virtual folders. However, what
about the following solution?

Make use of WS_FTP Server's event commands, e.g. the event "Folder
Created" could be used to trigger the command
          cmd.exe /x /c rmdir "%Dir"
so the directory will be removed immediately again not leaving the
chance to upload anything.
If you still need to be able to create folders through FTP don't
hesitate to configure a special SITE command for this purpose, available to
the server administrator(s) only. Hope this helps.

        Regards,
        Erich

Subject: [WS_FTP Forum] Anonymous Incoming "Tagged" Directories

Greetings,

I've pondered this, looked at Google searches, and looked through
knowledge bases galore, and still haven't arrived at a preventative
solution to an annoying problem: unwanted anonymous uploads.

I host an anonymous FTP server that we need to keep open. I'm using
WS_FTP Server, and have configured it so that there are two virtual
directories, incoming and outgoing. On the incoming directory, I've set
it up so that it is write-only and "blind" so that the uploader can't do
a directory listing.

I've noticed that I get an obscene amount of "Tagged" directories in
that incoming folder, by idiots who want to try and use my server as a
staging area for their data, none of which matters a lick of spit to me,
since they can't download any of it...

So I'm wondering if someone else has run into this problem and fashioned
a solution. I'd like to continue to use the Ipswitch product, but I'd
consider alternatives, as long as there's a good management interface.
:)

Cheers,

--R
