I have quite a similar problem, as yet not fully
resolved, but maybe I can shed some light on this.
We are occasionally transferring files with WS_FTP
over a VPN connection to a webserver.
a) When connected to the internet with a cable
connection or modem connection, there are no problems.
b) But when connected to the internet with a DSL
connection, we can only upload certain filetypes!
For instance, we can upload .HTML and .TXT files of
any size, but we can't upload .PDF, .DOC, .GIF! This phenomenon applies to files
of a certain size. Files with up to 2 KB can be transferred, files > 2 KB
can't be transferred - the process just stops in the middle.
On the server where the file is transferred to, the
file is actually created, but with 0 KB size.
The problems occur no matter if text mode or binary
mode is activated.
By the way, when I try to transfer these files not
by FTP but by simply copying them over shared windows folders, the same problem
occurs.
As far as I researched so far, maybe the MTU size
is to blame (in some countries, some DSL connections are established over VPN;
at least in Austria, where I am from; when you establish another VPN connection,
the MTU size drops further.)
Try reducing the MTU size on your local machine and
your router.
Best wishes,
George
