That program has some things in it for HIPPA compliance, and shows how some of the
inner workings of our money transfers work, otherwise I would...sorry.

The basic concept is something a good programmer should be able to knock out in less
than a week, including testing. It really is a big Copy and Paste routine when you
get down to it. If you have someone with the knowledge to write it as a C# or C++
program and have it run as a scheduled task or as a service, I would. Getting it
running as a service is where we are headed right now, we just have to add in the
HIPPA requirements, and some tracking/FED file compliance parts, which is a pain.

Can you provide us your VB program? Sounds like it can be used -- I
know I'm interested.

How do you handle sharing violations when someone is sending you a large
file the instance you're trying to copy?

Kevin,

This info might help depending on how you are trying to accomplish this.

We have a VB 6.0 program that is a "file mover". The program constantly
cycles through the folders on that FTP site, copies the files out of our
FTP server that are new, puts them in a directory on our file server,
and then validates the files through a CRC/size validation before
deleting the file off of the FTP server. If you modify this idea and
set it up as a service on each box to check, say every 5 min, you should
be able to accomplish what you are trying to do. You would have to
either install a client program on each box or configure a program on
the FTP server to distribute the files to each box. That would require
static IP's or another way to ensure that the files go to the right
place. You should also set up the users to have their own user ID,
password, and folder for the same reasons.

I think that, while you could do it through a script, an .EXE, or
service, in C#, C++, or VB would work better for what you are trying to
accomplish. The nice thing about services is that they auto restart, if
you write them correctly ;-), and they log to an NT boxes log file as to
when they error and why they errored.

James, Your solution will work IF the users have their own user ID and
password that goes to their own folder.

Configuring a .bat of script file to "fire-off" based on a download rule
for the "Host" will probably also delete the files in all the other
users folders I want to keep. I don't know enough about scripting to
make it work and Ipswitch is NO help either.

What about setting a Rule for File Download Attempts on the FTP Server?
You could run a 'clean up' batch file after they download the file(s).

Our FTP server is WS_FTP (4.02). I have a client setup with their own
"Host" with 10 individual "Folders/Virtual Folders". The client has 10
workstations using WS_FTP Pro(8.0). Each workstation downloads
(Synchronizes) from only one designated Folder from the "Host".

Q. I need to automatically delete the folders 'files' on a
per-workstation-basis after it downloads (synchronizes).
