Lucky you. I have had mixed results with tech support. There are some stellar people there, but unfortunately, many who need a course in timely communication and ability to read and understand a users problem.

Currently I use a mix of 2006 and 9.0 to get some of the reliability of 8.0 without the bells & whistles of the newer gui. I too probably do not use it to its fullest, but I am inclined not to expirament, as the current problems have cost me dearly.

Very few issues in regards to WS_FTP Professional 2006 are documented on
IPSwitch's Knowlegbase. However the online forum has a significant
amout of communication indicating users are unhappy with this version
and that several things are broken. Are people stearing away from
upgrading or is it safe to upgrade? We personally do not use the
product to its fullest, I have downloaded the new client and have been
unable to reproduce many of the issues users are reporting. It seems to
work okay.

Go to the web site. Its not Beta, but the WSFTP Pro 9.0 wan't supposed
to be and it was always crashing.. As I said before, it is WSFTP Pro
2006, which is should have been Version 10 There are many versions of
WSFTP pro. 8 was very stable, 9 was buggy and crippled in usabnility
and useful features in comarison, while adding som useful ones. if it
didn't crash. 2006, following Microsoft logic (windows 3.1, then Windows
95) is an improvement in many areas, and broken in many others

I'm getting confused here with these numbers that your talking about.

Can you tell me: Is version 2006 for the Client or the Server
mgr.??

Can you tell me: Is version 9.0 for the Pro version?

I have been seeing quite a bit of sour grapes about version 2006
maybe its beta release.

Yes, and remember how the system would remember the last sort order?
Was nice to have most recently updated up top.

No more. We have a very inconvenient sort order defined by who
knows....

[ipswitch] I sure hope you guys are listening here, and we would love
to have an explanation for this general decline in useful
functionality.

I do thank you for making the folder dropdowns bigger. This was a
REAL pita in 9.0

Local startup not working in 2006 version. I just thought it was
me. I had loaded 9.0 on other PC & configured it for local & host start
up folders fine. When I just did a 2006 install & could not get the
local start up to configure, I thought I was lost.

I did the same thing as workaround, created the workspaces but it
is not the same or as convenient.

AMEN on your last sentance! Sure do miss the menu option to do
this in one shot.

startup folders are changed by editing the site, look for
startup, or in Pro 2006 you can right-click the server tab in the remote
connection window, choose properties, and click on the startup link.

A note of warning, if you ARE using 2006, be ready for a great
dissappointment. The local startup doesn't work! Bummer.

I received no info about this and tech support is tough to deal
with.

The way I work around this, is to create Workspaces (new feature)
but then there is an annoying anomolie in that when you change the
remote folder and upload, it defaults back to the original folder.
Check your 'update folders' option Probably need to look closer at
options, but as you said, not intuitive and annoyingly lacking of old
features I really liked, like a cache of navigated folders on the local
side that was persistant across restarts. Everything is trashed when
you close. Real annoying in 9.0, because it was always crashing.

       I am using WS_FTP Pro.

I have failed to find the option that will open a site at the
folders that
I choose. I have 18 sites running and all these have been set
over the last
ten years. This is the first time I have had a new site with
WS_FTP Pro and
the option does not appear to be intuitive as it was in the
past.

       Thanks,

       Robin Chapple
