If your argument is you want to keep up with current best practice, then forget new windows & forget JS because they are not best practice. Also I'd say that HTML 4.01 is not any less a part of best practice than XHTML. Sorry - its just a pet peeve of mine. XHTML is a great concept, but HTML 4.01 is great in practice.
