Peter, don't give up just yet mate. Adding:
#innermid {
margin-bottom : 1px;
}
Seems to fix your footer problem (at least in Firebird). NFI why though.
Placing "<div class="clearboth"></div>" at the very end of your "innerMid"
div (but inside, not outside it), fixes your background colour problem.
But, it seems you have a bunch of other issues (header and nav positioning).
I'll let someone else chip in for those.
