I second Mark's comments, Peter. This list isn't about "full CSS or nothing" - even though our enthusiasm for full CSS may give this impression. :)
While we are trying to encourage people towards full CSS in the long term, the main aim is to encourage everyone to move towards building sites with web standards - full CSS is only part of this. A site built with a basic table grid and all other presentation aspects driven via CSS is still very worthwhile. It is still better than putting all presentation on the page - by a long way! I also think it is important to choose the right time and right project to make the jump into full CSS - definitely not when you are worried about deadlines or loosing money on a particular job. A LEARNING PROCESS? If you were trying to go from building table based sites to full CSS sites, it would probably be worth setting yourself some achievable goals - ones that encourage you to continue rather than turn you off the whole concept. For example, you could choose one aspect of web standards to achieve every new site you do - gradually building up to your goal. Goals could include: 1. valid code 2. semantically correct code 2. replacing inline font tags and inline colour with CSS 3. accessible forms, data tables and skip menus 4. basic positioning with CSS (padding, margins etc) while using overall table for layout 5. full positioning with CSS - no tables for layout While you are moving your real sites towards web standards, you could also set aside time to learn CSS positioning, playing with various CSS layouts to get a handle on how positioning works. The advantage is that you are doing it without any external pressure - especially commercial pressure.
