The version of IE in which the Sliding Doors technique is broken is 5.0 and the article about the technique in ALA has this as a Known Issue which the author is disinclined to address. The article definitely suggests that the it should work in 5.1 and later. Perhaps the person reporting the behaviour is confused about which version they have?
