I think you're missing the point...agreed the code is well shoddy, but, as Scrivs says, this is a major step forward for the web. If the best/most popular site on the web is tableless and moving towards complete web standards, then it becomes very easy for us to sell tableless/web standards to our clients:


Client: "Why should I use web standards on my site?"
Us: "Well - yahoo.com is built that way. Its one of the most visited sites on the web. Surely they know what they're doing...?..." etc


I say good on em! It takes balls to completely recode a site as massive as yahoo without tables.
