I've read the article and what I don't understand is that if it is so bad why is it acceptable to the Validator? I write my pages in XHTML with a XHTML 1.1 doctype and send the content type as text/html. That's how I was taught (doesn't make it right I know) and it validates. I've tried several methods of sending different headers depending on the browser but have yet to find one that works properly.
