Overkill? Maybe the first occurrence. By the time you get to the third you're already into the realm of obsessive-compulsive.

But I am from the metric world...


Doesn't matter. Metric has been in wide enough use in the US for long enough that if someone has crawled out from underneath their rock for long enough to use a computer, they'll understand what a dimension of "mm" means.
