Hi,

I've been playing around with positioning and z-index and I'm wondering if it is possible to give a containing box higher z-index that it's children.

Would need testing, but as a gut feeling I'd say you can only do it if you remove the child from the normal document flow by positioning it absolutely.

you can do it even without absolute positioning.

First you need to give the element a position of relative. You'll also need to do this for the children. That way they can stay in the flow (because their top and left are 0 unless you change them)

Now, give the children a negative z-index, and the parent a positive one (or 0)

That ought to do it,

John
