Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in..... I've always learnt things from either books or from chatting with other developers in IRC (there are no doubt some ajax specific groups - I recommend #jquery for the jQuery library which is my particular ajax weapon of choice).
Accreditations are definitely not required in the web development world - the worst developers I've interviewed are always the ones with accreditations whereas the best have just taught themselves or been taught by their peers!
