Hi,

This is a more best practices question than strictly standards, but I *think* it is on-topic, apologies if not and please mail me off- list if you feel that is more appropriate.

I have a band for a client who are requesting that on the homepage loading a music player starts automatically. Do people think this is acceptable for a bands website or would you think that you should always get the user to initiate playback?

For me it would depend... If it's a classical orchestra and I open it in my office, I won't get in trouble.. BUT if it's a death metal group playing one of their hardest songs, I would get into a little bit of trouble at my office.

If you do have it start automatically, I would make sure that it's very obvious/easy to stop it as quickly as possible.

Also... I don't know how it would effect screen readers? I don't know much about them, but don't they basically just run on top of your browser? For a non-sighted user having music "randomly" start playing could be a very bad thing...

Just my 2¢
