It's actually on par with Firefox 3 - running six parallel downloads per url. Safari and Opera should do slightly better running 8 concurrently. But either way it's far better than the original HTTP specification of 2 (IEv6 and v7). IEv8 also promises to no longer stall for the download of <link>'s and <script>'s.
