OK, so I haven't done very well following up on this.

There are a number of bugs on bugzilla, some of which have been fixed and
can be obtained by using the nightly builds.  Why not schedule a release if
there are recorded bugs that have been fixed.  This seems particularly
strange.

Second up relates to Axis, and I'm not too clear on the details here but
there is a critical piece that only works with Strings and WSIF has support
for byte arrays, so one of the two has to be changed.  (sorry this is so
vague)
