I take Jim P's request to be asking for handy rig- and soundcard-control 
features like those in WSJT-X to be ported back to WSJT.  Jim B is 
asking for an audio input feature that would be convenient in his 
particular station setup.

Neither one of you mentioned reason(s) why you may wish to run WSJT 
rather than one of the present versions of WSJT-X.  As subscribers to 
the wsjt-devel list you should already know the following, but just to 
be sure:

The venerable Python-based WSJT10 is nearing the end of nearly 15 years 
of development effort.  In general, we are building new features and 
capabilities into WSJT-X, *not* WSJT.  Back-porting features from the 
Qt-based WSJT-X to the Python3-based WSJT would require significant work 
that would soon be obsolete.
