What I want is to run the modes that are currently only in WSJT.

I do not care much if they all get put into WSJT-X or an entirely new program.
While having one application that does everything has some appeal, I do realize
that often when one attempts to do everything with one application there can be
confilcts, compromises, or other undesired side effects from that approach, so
my vote is for whatever makes the most sense to the developers.

The only point I really have is that the rig and sound card setup interface in
WSJT-X is far superior to what is in the current WSJT.

Because WSJT only takes audio from the "left"

every time I want to run it.

I take Jim P's request to be asking for
 handy rig- and soundcard-control
 features
like those in WSJT-X to be ported back to WSJT.  Jim B is

asking for an audio input feature that
 would be convenient in his
 particular
 station setup.

 Neither one
of you mentioned reason(s) why you may wish to run WSJT
rather than one of the present versions of
 WSJT-X.  As subscribers to
 the wsjt-devel
list you should already know the following, but just to
 be sure:

 The
venerable Python-based WSJT10 is nearing the end of nearly
 15 years
 of development effort.  In
general, we are building new features and
 capabilities into WSJT-X, *not* WSJT.
 Back-porting features from the
 Qt-based
WSJT-X to the Python3-based WSJT would require significant
 work
 that would soon be obsolete.
