Agreed.  But the fast JT9 modes were intended for ionoscatter, not EME.

The wide (but slow) JT9 modes may be very suitable for EME, but no 
significant effort has been made, yet, to optimize such use.

Except possibly for sending yourself a "HELLO MOON" echo test, what 
useful purpose do you imagine for something like fast JT9F on the EME 
path?  Isn't the single-tone Echo mode best, anyway, for echo tests?
