Hello Haken,

I can't ( won't ) speak to Mint 17.x specifics, as it is *not* Ubuntu,
however, I can state, all of my PPA's work properly on Ubuntu 14.04+ as
that is my main distribution for building and testing WSJT-X on Linux.

It is well known that Mint has implemented unique sound system when
compared to Ubuntu proper (Unity). These issues are not Ubuntu bugs
(IMHO), clearly not WSJT-X bugs, and the issue(s) should be addressed
with the Mint folks.
