Understood, but it was suspicious that I get exactly 0.0 unless we have 
fudge factors in place somewhere or the latencies exactly cancel. I can 
tweak the latency of the loop back itself but not the channels used by 
the two copies of WSJT-X and the channels they write/read.

Perhaps it is as simple as the latencies cancelling out and a 
synthesised sample stream needs to be adjusted to add in some recording 
latency. I have often wondered about the consequences of using a DSP Rx 
and he extra latency that would add to the Rx path.
