Mike,

They were running 1.7.0-devel r6466 under Win10. I don't know the source of their WSJT-X build, there was a bit of a language barrier, English not being their native tongue, and never got the answer to the question.

There was no specific DDE failure message, but the JTAlertDDE tests failed for all the DXLab components accessed by DDE. The user also reported that 2 other bridges they run, MixW to DXKeeper as Fldigi to DXKeeper also failed (I believe they use DDE as well).

I suggested they try 1.6.0 rather than a dev build after theri most recent System Restore. Resulting in DDE working correctly when UDP was enabled. It was something within the 1.7.0 code, if not breaking DDE, perhaps disabling it at the OS level (I never got around to researching that possibility)

Regarding JTAlert always opening UDP, that is not the case. JTAlert will only start looking for UDP packets from WSJT-X if the WSJT-X config has the necessary settings enabled. JTAlert cannot bind to the UDP broadcast port, only an individual port (limitation of the Compiler) so reads the Config first to get the IP and Port and to see if the "Accept UDP Requests" is enabled.

What is the DDE failure message and when does it occur?
Sounds a lot like a 1-off error to me caused by something else....perhaps enabling a UDP server is causing it. I wouldn't think a UDP client would (since JTAlert always opens the UDP client, right?)
