Claude, are you using the https URL from wget?
On Windows I see this:

It appears to me that the older SSL libraries don't recognized the wildcard
match.

The version installed here is openssl-1.0.2j-1.fc24.i686, on a 32 bit
Fedora 24 system, all available updates are installed.
I'm still surprised to see that a download via "curl" or "wget" is
possible without a problem. In my modest understanding, the used modules
should be the same.
I have verified the wsjtx executable. It uses the lib
/lib/libssl.so.1.0.2j of the openssl-libs-1.0.2j-1.fc24.i686 package.
This is exactly the same lib as curl and wget are using.
