Hi all. Running r7756 which was current as of 5 minutes before I started writing this :)
Over the past 24 hours, I've been on almost constantly either just receiving or transmitting (my kids don't let me sleep so I may as well do something while they go back to sleep lol). I'm using a PC running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit as I haven't had time to check any of this on my Linux machines. The PC in question is running an Intel Core 2 Duo running around 3.06 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Rig control is direct from WSJT-X to my Flex 6300 via SmartSDR CAT. Sound is via the DAX Control Panel for Flex radios. Some observations (some of these may have already been brought up on the reflector - I'm playing catch up): -Responses to my CQ on the same frequency don't show up in the RX Frequency section; they show up in the Band Activity box. Once I double click on the responding station in the Band Activity box, the response then shows up in the RX Frequency box. -It's all or nothing with decodes: even momentary interference like a brief band change will prevent decoding a station. -Auto-sequencing works well though some users don't like both "RRR" and "73" being sent (the ability to select one or the other prompting the log dialog to pop up would be a "nice to have" but isn't strictly necessary - totally cosmetic IMHO; just passing along what a couple others have noted; I know this will raise the hackles of some folks. Please don't shoot the messenger. -As noted above, I haven't been able to test Es propagation reception due to the band not cooperating but F-layer propagation tests have been quite promising with the caveat I noted above in my second bullet Now my purely anecdotal feedback: -FT8 is definitely fast-paced. You need to be right on top of someone responding to your CQ or you'll find you've already rolled into your next CQ cycle and the TX is locked (you can't double click on a response and change your transmitted message after a second or two like in JT65 and JT9 and I completely understand why with the speed of the mode!). For those responding to CQ's, it's worth being patient - if you respond to someone but they send another CQ, most likely they missed the window to respond. Stick around for another cycle just to be sure :) -Because of the fast pace, I find myself poised to pounce if I see a station responding to me; the anticipation is quite refreshing -There definitely seems to be a lot of interest in a mode like this - I created a group on Facebook (mostly to prevent the posts I started to see crop up in several groups with links to binaries inviting others to download versions of 1.7.1 that were rendered obsolete just hours or minutes later but also to get everyone who uses that channel for their connection to other hams in one place). That group went from 1 to 183 members in 24 hours. -This has been the most fun I've had in quite some time - thanks for all the work going into this! 73, Jim S.
