Replying to a JT65 CQ when WSJT-X is in FT8 mode does generate standard
messages, but it’s using the grid as call:
KN04 SM0THU JO89
KN04 SM0THU -21
KN04 SM0THU R-21
KN04 SM0THU RRR
KN04 SM0THU 73
CQ SM0THU JO89
Not a very common thing to do, but maybe WSJT-X should switch mode in this case?

HI Anders,

I will have a look at the reply facility for FT8, you are probably the first to test it.

On mode switch, that doesn't make much sense as switching to FT8 mode to get FT8 decodes almost certainly means that the VFO dial frequency will have changed so the reply will probably be on the wrong frequency. I agree that changing mode may return to the correct frequency but I regard it as the same as a "blind" call which is not really wise.

I will change WSJT-X to ignore UDP reply messages when the mode is not appropriate.

Thanks for the issue report.
