I have found that

  1. Weak does not work
  2. When 2 stations call and it picks up the 1st, after completion it does
not start on the 2nd and requires operator intervention unless the 2nd calls
again (but in that event there is the problem cited by Jim N4ST). I should add
that only twice have I knowingly had 2 stations respond together so it is only
on those instances that I base this report.

Is this the desired behaviour – that selecting 1st means auto-answer the 1st
and disregard the 2nd? Or should it sequence through 1st and then 2nd?

But overall this new feature is excellent. It makes such a positive difference
to operating FT8.

If you are a rare DX and have many stations calling you, once auto-cq-reply
starts it should not respond to any calls until you send TX4 or TX5.
If it does then you can't complete any QSO.

Also couldn't get weak to work here, call 1st worked fine.

So call 1st (and I guess weak too) should maybe be disabled after starting the
QSO and then re-enabled at Tx 6 again? Or perhaps only enable when Tx 6 is
active?

Call 1st is great for us old guys that are slower on the mouse clicks. It
does seem to work. The problem I had was if some over anxious caller (I
guess because I am in the rare state of Virginia) would call me before I
finished my current QSO sequence, WSJT-X would jump to the other caller's
frequency! So now, as soon as I establish a QSO, I click off the Call 1st
feature and then re-engage it when I call CQ again.

I've been trying out the new UI feature for auto-responding to a CQ, for
which many thanks Joe.

The Call 1st option works like a champ. It enables a station to work a 'run'
without any duplicated transmissions even if you're a bit slow on the
uptake.

I couldn't persuade 'Weak' to work, though. Tried it a couple of times and
in both cases my station responded with another CQ. There was only one
caller in each case.
