While operating in this weekend's ARRL VHF contest using FT8, two major
problems have appeared.
1) Not all stations are using the CONTEST MODE (File, Settings, Advanced tab).
As a result, stations using differing "Contest mode" check box settings can
not complete FT8 QSOs. The reports being received are not being interpreted
as valid exchanges. This results in endless repeats and no completed FT8
contest QSOs.
2) Some stations are reporting receiving bogus 4 character grid squares. I
just received an email from a local contester concerning confusing reports
being received during the VHF contest using FT8 on 6M. He writes:

"Rich,
I am puzzled by the unexpected OF10, OF11, OE39, OE39 initial FT8 exchanges
some stations (you, K3AJ, N2NT, W3IP, WA3VNV) were sending. Some resulted in
puzzled receivers re-sending the R report several times. Where is this
explained."

I've sent him a reply, asking what version of WSJT-X he is using. If an older
version, there may be a compatibility problem. Another local, whom II believe
is using Build 1.7.1 r8072, reports decoding a few stations sending bogus grid
reports.
I have switched from the development builds and have been shaking down "
v1.8.0-rc2 8069" but so far I have seen no such bogus grids yet in what I have
decoded.
I'll report more as I get more input from the guys.
