#1 is likely one of two things...time sync...or sound card dropouts.  Time sync
is easy to check at http://time.is.  Sound card dropouts are harder but would
be visible in a saved WAV file (see Save/Save All menu).  And provide us with
an example WAV file that doesn't decode as you think it should.

#2 You should test connecting WSJT-X directly to the FT-991 and see if it
behaves better to remove HRD as a potential problem.

I am currently running: WSJT-X v1.8.0 r8193 on  Windows 10.   I am using a MFJ
1204 USB Radio Interface for my sound card, it is linked to my PC and my Yaesu
FT 991. I use Ham Radio Deluxe (6.4.0.794) and have that selected as my “Rig”.
I control the receive and transmit volume through the MFJ 1204.  I am very
careful to keep the receive (mic) at around 50 dB on the bar graph.  When I
transmit I ensure my ALC meter does not register at all on any outgoing
transmissions.

I do have multiple options for sound on my PC due to external speakers but my
MFJ 1204 is selected in the “Settings” for both Input and Output for WSJT-X.
(same settings I use in my HRD software)

There have been two main issues that happen spuraticly.  I have not been able
to nail down the causes as of yet.

   - There are times when I first start up my pc and WSJT-X that it will only
decode one or two signals at a time when there are dozens of signals.  My
filter width is set to 3000Hz. ( I never change this).     The only way I have
found to get WSJT-X to work correctly is to uninstall the sound card drivers
and re-install them.   Sometimes it take a couple of try’s of uninstalling and
re-installing to get it to work.   This does not happen every time I start up,
but about one in every four.

   - There are times that when making a contact that my PPT does not release at
the end of the 15 seconds.   It will continue showing I am transmitting up to
5-6 seconds into the next transmission cycle.   My transmission of data will
end before my 15 seconds are complete but WSJT-X will not receive data until it
has release my PPT.   I frequently miss the replay message from my contact.
This seems to happen on specific contacts, and across different bands.   I can
then click on a different contact in the same band immediately afterwards  and
it will work fine., but if I go back the previous contact it will happen again.
I does seem to happen more when the contact is closer to actual frequency I
have dialed in and less when I get farther down the band width.

If you need any more details I would be happy to respond.

I do love the software and the FT8 language.
