I'm sorry I don't own a 7700 so I can't be of much help with this but I have 
been able to get all my other ICOM HF radios that have CI-V ports to work with 
WSJT-x via various USB to CI-V converters.  I have never used the ICOM level 
converter so I can't comment regarding that approach.  

According to a brochure I found on the Internet the 7700 has a CI-V port but I 
haven't looked at the manual re this.
