Hi Richard,
the version of Hamlib shipped with WSJT-X is v4 from their master
branch. I see no reason why those building from sources should not
follow our recommendation. As for various distribution official
packaging requirements, however dumb (bundling a static linked library
avoids the issues they are afraid of), we have no problem with using an
older system version of Hamlib but official support is limited for this
non-recommended configuration.
