Relying on just one ntp server in Windows requires a net connection with absolute no glitches. ntp time adjust needs the same delay for up- and download on the internet connection to do a perfect sync.
I had been asked by local OM to support him. 'Sometimes' his clock was off by 1,5 to 2,5 seconds. Even if he used Dimension4 with an interval of 10 minutes. The Dimension4 is using just one time server in the configuration setting. Took us a while to find out! My friends ADSL line is slow, asymetrical in speed (by the provider) and has apparently sometimes glitches or delays on the download link. This can happen, if the ADSL end point is in long ir maximum distance to the DSLAM modems in the local exchange. Only Meinberg uses and describes why they use for this given reason several ntp time server. The 'NetTime' software has 4 entries, but no info how and if they use them accordingly. Using the 'default' ntp time server is not the best solution either. In Meinberg and in NetTime one can set the configuration for the servers. Do not use them as in the default settings! Your optimum ntp server can be found here: https://www.ntppool.org/ One should use a time server (or, as said, several of them) in the home area or at least on the own continent. 73 de Wolfgang OE1MWW ---------- Amateur radio is the most expensive type of free-of-charge communication!
