Hi Bill,
I finally got around to testing on air this weekend and have a problem.
The package built for Mageia 6 stable release runs fine and was running
WSPR most of Saturday afternoon, with a short spell of FT8.
However, the build for Mageia Cauldron, (our next version approaching
release) seems to have an issue.
To clarify my testing environment, I am using the two systems on the
same physical hardware (dual boot) and both use the same /home/me, so
configuration stored in my user should be identical.
wsjtx is packaged specifically for each system in clean chroot
environments with only base systems plus deps, from the same rpm spec file.
On the newer system with later versions of some deps I find that the
waterfall/spectrum stops after any attempt to transmit (or tune) so it
looks as though the cat command is crashing some process. There is also
no audio out on the TX audio line.
Running wsjtx from a terminal I see:
ALSA lib pcm_usb_stream.c:508:(_snd_pcm_usb_stream_open) Unknown field hint
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1108:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
ALSA lib pcm_usb_stream.c:508:(_snd_pcm_usb_stream_open) Unknown field hint
[20190120 20:41:38.233 GMT C] Hamlib: kenwood_transaction: Unknown
command or rig busy 'TO'
The first line above implies to me in my ignorance, that it is for some
reason expecting to send audio over USB? I use separate cables to Line
in/out for audio, so why it's trying to '_snd_pcm_usb_stream_open' I
don't know.
If I reboot straight back into Mageia 6 using the same config I see:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1099:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[20190120 21:18:55.368 GMT C] Hamlib: kenwood_transaction: Unknown
command or rig busy 'TO'
....but the RX does not hang after transmit and there is audio on the TX
line. All works just fine.
The rig check in the Settings->Radio tab seems to pass OK.
The CAT control serial port is set to /dev/ttyUSB0 and CAT frequ and PTT
control is faultless.
The radio is Kenwood TS-450S.
Any ideas? Anything more I can send to help?
Cheers,
Barry
