Region 1 - UK

While in the freq area - 70 Mhz - it’s set as 70.100  for FT8

However as this is not in the German allocation 99.9% of the FT8 4m activity is centred around 70.154. Also 70.100 is right on the boundary of the RSGB band Plan for ‘Personal Beacons’.

I see MSHV (which is popular over here due to the extra modes and is aimed more at 50Mhz and above) has 4m FT8 preset at 70.154. Googling 70.100 and 70.154 all the web pages  refer to 70.154 as FT8 freq - yes the odd proviso that varying countries have different allocations so may never have one freq that fits all on 70.

I would seem (IMHO) to have all the FT8 supported packages to have the same frequency to save confusion once the Es session starts up.

Yes I know any one can edit the frequency table but half the users don’t seem to know what the ‘Settings’ option actually does and where it is.

Tom,

I consulted with some regular users of WSJT modes on 4m and was promised that they would get back to me with a best option for a 4m working frequency in IARU Region 1. They did not get back to me and I am still waiting. If 70.154 is the de facto working frequency in Region 1 then I will happily change the default in WSJT-X.

One thing that should be considered is compatibility with the South African band plan which appears to have 70.150 - 70.200 allocated to digital FM modes that would not interact well with FT8.

Comments from regular 4m digi-mode operators welcome.
