It has come to my attention that the default FT4 frequency on 40M has been set to 7047.5  As N5TM put it on Slack VHF-Chat, "this is going to start an all out war on 40M." I couldn't agree more.

I'm very active on the HF bands, and there's a LOT of CW activity all the way up to at least 7060. Everything from QRP to county hunters to state QSO parties, to QRS ops. Whoever made that choice seems either pretty inconsiderate or pretty ignorant of long established practice on the band. I haven't looked carefully at other bands.

Jim,

the IARU Region 2 band plan shows 7040 - 7047 as available for up to 500 Hz bandwidth digital modes as well as CW. It also lists 7047 - 7050 as available for up to 500 Hz bandwidth digital modes including automatic stations as well as CW. Those are globally coordinated with similar slots in the Region 1 and 3 band plans. Remember that FT4 is intended for contest use and most contests will make recommendations on frequencies to be used. The original suggestion was 7047 but as that clashes with the ARRL code practice service and other ARRL services we moved up 500 Hz to steer clear of that well used spot.
