I'm very active on the HF bands, and there's a LOT of CW activity all
the way up to at least 7060. Everything from QRP to county hunters to
state QSO parties, to QRS ops. Whoever made that choice seems either
pretty inconsiderate or pretty ignorant of long established practice on
the band. I haven't looked carefully at other bands.
I can assure you that recommending default frequencies for users of any
popular mode is a 100% thankless job. Particularly so on a world-wide
basis.
In general we have stayed away from making unilateral recommendations;
rather, we have waited for evidence of some consensus among the
community of users. In any event, frequencies compiled into WSJT-X are
nothing more than suggestions. They can be (and often have been)
changed when better compromises become available.
Almost without exception, complaints about frequencies we have suggested
are made by people who have been silent when we've asked for community
input. It's not helpful to call those who have worked hard to come up
with acceptable defaults "inconsiderate" or "ignorant" -- and especially
unhelpful when the complaining message contains no suggested alternatives.
